I’m Stefano, a 4th year Computing Science student from Brazil. While looking for a job that would allow me to work in my field while attending classes, I ended up working as a research assistant to Dr. Andrew Park in the CS department and falling in love with the scientific process of discovery! My first project was looking into the patterns of vessel interactions in the context of illegal fishing. Recently, my research focus has been directed toward the study and visualization of land-based crime patterns in Vancouver, enabled by the SSHRC Federal grant. If you are interested in research, work hard on your courses and always reach out to professors to ask about their current projects. That way, when funding becomes available, you will likely be considered for assistantship positions!
