My name is Tara (she/her), and I am a 5th-year student in my final year of TRU’s Bachelor of Social Work program. I first worked as a research assistant under the supervision of Dr. Bala Nikku on a CDRF project in partnership with the Thompson Region Division of Family Practice. In this role, I explored emergency disaster management in a medical context. Following that, I completed my first BSW practicum with TRU’s Research & Graduate Studies office and the Xchange, which is a community-driven research hub that has been developed in partnership with the United Way. In this position I worked under the supervision of Sukh Heer Matonovich, Dominique Hazel, and faculty partner Heather McLean. My practicum led to a position as an Undergraduate Research Ambassador at TRU, and I am now hooked! Research can be a form of activism, and diverse voices asking the questions that guide community-driven research are key. Every single person has something important to contribute!
